My Roots in Watsonville

My name is Elias Gonzales. I was born and raised in Watsonville. Growing up, my family lived in a one-bedroom apartment above the Fox Theater. After my parents separated, we moved frequently due to financial hardship, and for a short period of time, we even lived in our car. Those experiences shaped not only my perspective, but my purpose.

I attended McQuiddy Elementary, E.A. Hall Middle School, and Watsonville High School. I went on to earn two Associate degrees from Cabrillo College and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Communication with a Pre-Law emphasis from California State University, Monterey Bay.

My lived experience has profoundly shaped who I am. I understand firsthand what it means to struggle — and I also know the strength it takes to persevere.

Elias actively supports local organizations dedicated to uplifting the community. Through hands-on volunteer work, including mentoring youth, he helps provide guidance, opportunity, and hope. Every hour he invests strengthens community bonds and enriches lives across our neighborhoods.
